Porirua East School faced challenges with their existing playground surfacing. The school had originally installed wet pour black rubber surfacing, which over time exhibited numerous issues including chipping, cracking, and deterioration. Additionally, the use of bark around the playground posed maintenance challenges and safety concerns due to tripping hazards.

Project Overview: The objective was to provide a durable, low-maintenance solution that would enhance safety and aesthetics while staying within the school's play space budget.

Solution: Play Matta Original offered several advantages over the previous surfacing:

Durability: Play Matta Original is known for its resilience and durability, making it an excellent choice for high-traffic areas like playgrounds.

Low Maintenance: Unlike bark or rubber surfacing, Play Matta Original requires minimal maintenance, saving the school time and resources in the long run.

Safety: With the installation of ramping, Play Matta Original eliminates tripping hazards, ensuring a safer environment for children to play.

Recyclable: Play Matta Original is recyclable at the end of its lifecycle, aligning with the school's sustainability goals.

Colour Options: The availability of three shades of blue allowed the school to choose a visually appealing colour scheme that complemented their surroundings.

Outcome: The implementation of Play Matta Original proved to be a resounding success for Porirua East School. Not only did it address the initial challenges of safety and maintenance, but it also provided a vibrant and attractive playground surface for students to enjoy.

The incorporation of ramping effectively eliminated tripping hazards, further enhancing safety. Moreover, the project was completed within the school's budget, demonstrating the cost-effectiveness of Play Matta Original.
