Challenge
McKenzie Kings Reserve in Millgrove, Victoria, is a well-loved community space, but its playground had become dated and struggled with accessibility issues. Uneven surfaces and limited pathways made it difficult for children and families, especially those with mobility challenges, to fully enjoy the playground. Yarra Ranges Council sought a solution that would not only upgrade the play area but also improve accessibility for all visitors.
Solution
The council wanted to extend the playground, replace the old panels, paint the posts, and install a new footpath spanning the length of the area. To enhance accessibility to the play equipment, Play Matta Original was installed alongside the new pathways. Play Matta provides a smooth, durable, and slip-resistant surface, ensuring safe and easy access for wheelchairs, prams, and visitors of all abilities.
Outcome
The transformation of McKenzie Kings Reserve was a success. The playground is now more inclusive, welcoming, and visually appealing. Families can easily enjoy the area, and children of all abilities can safely access the play equipment without barriers.
Yarra Ranges Council achieved its goal of delivering an upgraded, accessible community space that will serve families in Millgrove for years to come.
